With immense pride in its sporting pedigree, the United Kingdom represents a popular destination for a tour with XL Travel. In 2014, the UCCS Ladies team took a weeklong tour of the United Kingdom, experiencing the vibrant soccer culture and taking in the stunning scenery.
During the trip, the GUSA players were treated to practice sessions and matches at the state-of the-art training facilities of EPL teams such as Fulham and Queens Park Rangers. This proved to be a valuable experience for the group, as they got a glimpse of the day-to-day work of a professional soccer player.
The GUSA group played several matches against English Premier League Ladies’ teams such as Aston Villa and Everton. They delivered accomplished performances, impressing with their work ethic and teamwork.The tour featured several live English Premier League games, featuring teams such as Manchester United FC, Aston Villa FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC. The UCCS group were mesmerized by the English fans’ exuberance and passion for the sport.
One of the most popular parts of the trip for many of the group was the tour of the Wembley Stadium. This proved to be a fantastic experience for the group, as they learned of the history and tradition steeped in English soccer, and how this is represented in the stadium.
The tour also presented an opportunity for the UCCS group to take in the sights and scenes of the United Kingdom. Visiting vibrant areas of London such as Kensington and Covent Garden, as well as spending time in the cultural hotbed of Liverpool provided fantastic experiences for the group. One particular highlight was visiting the Beatles museum, where the group viewed the vast amounts of memorabilia on show.
