Chester is an historic city on the border of Wales and England. Its origins can be traced back to the founding of the Roman fortress of Dewa in 70AD. Chester later became a thriving port and consequently one of the richest cities in Britain, but the river Dee silted up and trade declined until the city's development was frozen. Today Chester is a major tourist attraction and shopping location.

The city itself is one of only a handful completely surrounded by huge sandstone walls, built by the Romans for fortification of the city centre. Chester is a beautiful, elegant and historic city not to be missed.
